With a labor contract set to expire Friday, negotiations are continuing this week between the Community Health Center of Buffalo and 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.

The union represents about 50 employees at the health center, including physician assistants, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, dental hygienists, dental assistants, social workers and clerical employees.

Despite six meetings since December to hammer out a new labor agreement, the union said the two sides remain far apart on both economic and non-economic items.

Both sides will continue to meet this week to try to come to agreement before the contract expires at midnight, Jan. 31.

The Community Health Center of Buffalo is an $8 million nonprofit facility that holds a federal designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center. Based in Buffalo at 44 Benwood Ave., the center also has sites in Niagara Falls and Lockport.
