It's time to take a closer look at your paycheck. A new On Numbers report shows that average weekly earnings for private-sector workers in the Buffalo area increased 11.4 percent during the past five years. The typical local employee made $714 per week in July 2012, up from $641 per week five years ago. The report is based on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Durham, N.C. tops the list of fastest growing wages. Weekly pay jumped 41 percent in five years for private sector workers. Albany is actually second. Then Toledo, Ohio and Little Rock, Arkansas. Buffalo is down the list at 42nd with the 11 percent increase in pay, out of 102 different metro areas.
79 of the 102 areas did see weekly earnings increase over five-years. Buffalo is on par with the national average.
