Williamsville is holding onto its lead as Western New York's top school district,
but the margin is shrinking.
That's because second place East Aurora is gaining ground. Only a fraction of a point separates East Aurora from Williamsville. The district is just 0.18 points shy of Williamsville.
Superintendent Brian Russ says the district continues to raise the bar to reach academic success for its 1800 students.
"I think we've accomplished a lot and we are proud of what we've done, but every year we come back and say how do we make it better," Russ said. "What else can we do, to not only do well on assessments, but really understand the student experience? So when they leave us they have options and choices after they leave our high school."
Russ says the district focuses on the whole child with a warm culture and climate, along with programs that allow them to grow like a community garden harvested right at the elementary school.
Russ has served as superintendent for three years. He says the district has all the pieces to the successful puzzle with great students with parental support, a strong PTO, staff and the board of education, along with strong community support.
