There's a standout when it comes to administrative efficiency in area school districts.

Lancaster once again holds the distinction of having the leanest public school operation in Western New York, according to Business First's 2014 rankings of administrative efficiency.

Business First's uses a three-part rating formula to determine which Western New York school districts have the tightest budgets and leanest staffs, regardless of academic performance.

This is the third consecutive year -- and the fourth of the past five -- that the Lancaster Central School District has been No. 1 in this category.

Lancaster spends the least per pupil, just over $13,000, of any school district in the eight-county region. It also boasts the fifth-best ratio of pupils to administrators.. That's about 256 students per administrative staffer.

After Lancaster, top districts for administrative efficiency include Hamburg, East Aurora, Williamsville and Frontier.

Belfast has the lowest rating, followed by Franklinville, Friendship, Ripley and Buffalo.
