Pittsford is home to the top two middle schools in the Rochester Area.
Calkins Road Middle School is No. 1 and Barker Road Middle School is No. 2 in the new academic rankings released by Business First.
The same two schools were in the same positions in the previous two years.
Penfield's Bay Trail Middle School, Brighton's Twelve Corners Middle School and Honeoye Falls-Lima Middle School are third, fourth and fifth, in that order.
Business First rated 90 public middle schools across the Rochester Area, using four years of standardized test data for seventh and eighth graders. All raw statistics came from the New York State Education Department.
Subject awards have been given to 13 schools, indicating that they rank among the top 10 percent of all Rochester Area middle schools in English or math.
Five schools have received the maximum of two subject awards, while eight have earned one apiece.
The Rochester Area is defined as a region that includes Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne and Yates counties. It contains 67 school districts.
Business First has rated schools in Western New York (the Buffalo-Niagara Falls area) since 1992. It added separate Rochester Area rankings in 2010.
