They are saying cheers at Canalside. The State Liquor Authority has ok'd a liquor license for the Courtyard by Marriott hotel. It should open by early May at One Canalside building.

Meanwhile, crews are making progress at HarborCenter. The first phase there is about 50 percent complete and should be ready in about six months. Crews are working double shifts and say the project is moving quickly from a construction standpoint. The $172.2 million project is expected to add a new dimension to Buffalo. The downtown sports center is on target to open in September. It will be anchored by two ice rinks, another Marriott hotel, a sports bar, restaurant and parking lot.

This week's Business First is full of stats on HarborCenter. More than 1,700 tons of steel are inside the complex, with 1,350 tons of reinforcing steel so far. The ice plant that produces ice for the rinks will weigh 52,000 pounds. So far, crews have installed two miles of underground electrical conduit, with about one mile of plumbing at this point.
