Jeff Ware wants to brew beer in Buffalo, and do so in what he calls an “Americanized German” setting.

Ware said he’s using a mix of loans and investment dollars totaling around $1 million for Resurgence Brewing Company and Beer Garden, which will include indoor and outdoor beer gardens. He said architectural plans are being finalized for the site at 1250 Niagara Street, which he’s leasing from Better Wire Products Inc., located at 1255 Niagara Street. He said the plan is to tailor his beers for people in Buffalo.

“We’ll produce beer that we’ll sell locally,” said Ware, an Orchard Park native who had lived in New York City while working in sales in for Boston Beer Co. “We’ll have a tap room, people can see the tanks, watch us brew and the whole scene will be catered toward the perfect experience.”

Ware fell in love with the building at 1250 Niagara Street, just north of Rich Products Corp., and behind Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper’s building.

“There are a lot of windows, which I like,” said Ware, who was inspired by his experience living in New York, where he said it seemed every borough had a beer garden.

“It was a fun place to have a beer,” he said. “I thought, ‘How fun would it be to have a place like this in Buffalo?”

Ware said that in addition to his personal experience, he’s had discussions with around 100 different brewers from around the U.S., plus small-business owners and distilleries to get Resurgence off the ground. He’s targeting spring, 2014 to open.
