The Bonadio Group LLP will invest more than half-a-million dollars to upgrade and renovate its new Amherst office, CEO and managing partner Thomas Bonadio said.
The public accounting firm has already started to remodel half of the space it now leases at 100 Corporate Parkway and plans to finish the project this summer, Bonadio said. Once finalized, approximately 130 employees are expected to be based in the office, but there will be enough room to house between 160 and 175 total employees in the future.
"It's going to be beautiful," Bonadio said. "We're putting in big board rooms, great conference rooms, a new entryway (and) new carpets. We're doing a really nice job."
The Bonadio Group announced last week that it signed a 15-year agreement with Uniland Development Co. to lease the entire second floor at 100 Corporate Parkway, located next to Interstate 290 near Millersport Highway. Much of the space - about 22,000 square feet of the total 35,000 square feet - was most recently occupied by Gaines Kriner Elliott LLP, the public accounting firm that merged with The Bonadio Group on Nov. 1.
Former Gaines Kriner employees have continued to work out of 100 Corporate Parkway while legacy Bonadio employees have stayed put at the firm's Sheridan Meadows Corporate Park-North office on Sheridan Drive. Once renovations of the new space are complete, the 45 Bonadio workers at Sheridan Meadows will relocate to Corporate Parkway.
More than four months post-merger, the newly combined company is working well together and clients seem to be happy with the expanded team, Thomas Bonadio said.
"There are new business opportunities, lots of different specialty areas, lots of potential clients and lots of new services to the clients we had," Bonadio said. "We closed a deal last week with influence from some of the original Bonadio partners and some of the new Bonadio partners in excess of $400,000 and I don't think either of us would have gotten it without this merger."
The Bonadio Group is now the third-largest public accounting firm in Western New York, based on the number of CPAs it employs. In addition to Gaines Kriner's Amherst office, Bonadio also picked up Gaines Kriner's offices in East Aurora and Batavia.
The East Aurora office will remain as is, but the Batavia office will likely relocate to new space in Batavia sometime in the future, Bonadio said. Post-busy season, the firm plans to launch a series of marketing and advertising initiatives in the region, he said.
"It's about making sure people know who we are and how larger we are and what type of capabilities we have," Bonadio said. "We'll have lots of name-type recognition after busy season."
