WNY (WKBW) - Clowning around is paying off for John Kennedy Kane. Many WNYers know him as Kandy Kane from the Festival of Lights at the Erie County Fairgrounds.

Well now, he has turned in his elf suit, in exchange for a new outfit as Ringmaster of the Big Apple Circus in New York City.

Kane says he is thrilled with the opportunity that even landed him a spot on Good Morning America last week. He introduced an acrobatic troupe from China as he promoted the circus, which just opened for its 35th season at Lincoln Center in New York.

"You have Lincoln Center and the Metropolitan Opera so it's really a classy part of town with the big fountain and the tent!" he said.

"Big Apple is a one ring circus, European style where the people are very close to the ring."

Many of those people are celebrities who support the Big Apple Circus. "The neat thing about it being in New York, there are constantly celebrities coming with their kids," Kane said. "In recent years, Tom Cruise, David Beckham, Britney Spears. Matthew Broderick is a big supporter."

The theme of the Big Apple Circus this year is Legendarium.. It runs until January 13th in New York City.
