Consumers are spending green to don red, white and blue this week. A new survey by Visa shows that spending will be up this Independence Day. Researchers predict spending will jump 58 percent compared to last year.

This year, the Visa survey finds that consumers plan to spend about $300, up from $190 last year.

Last year's survey showed that almost 21 percent of consumers didn't plan on any spending for the holiday. That number dropped to just 12 percent this year.

Some areas are more patriotic than others. In the northeast, consumers will spend the most on celebrations at $454 on average. But spending on fireworks is lower due to legal restrictions. Southerners will spend $339, while those out west will only spend about $200. And consumers in the midwest just under $200 on average.
