Construction is expected to start this fall on a 78-unit, $14 million apartment complex in Amherst.

The development of the Stratford Apartments, slated for Chestnut Ridge Road and not far from the University at Buffalo campus, cleared its final hurdle when the Amherst Planning Board unanimously approved the project. FAC Downtown LLC, an affiliate of Legacy Development, is building the complex.

"With UB and all of the office parks nearby, this makes for a perfect spot to develop apartments," said Frank Chinnici, FAC Downtown partner.

The Stratford Apartments will spread over three, three-story buildings. The complex, according to planning board documents, include 21 one-bedroom units, 51 two-bedroom units and six three-bedroom units. The apartments will range in size from 877-square-feet to 1,350-square-feet.

Other amenities in the complex include an outdoor pool and community building.

Chinnici said he expects the construction will take one year to complete and the first units should be tenant-ready by next fall.

Legacy Development has built a number of residential complexes and single-family homes in Amherst, East Aurora and is working with the city of Buffalo on a residential project just off of LaSalle Avenue.
