Business owners and volunteers in the Delavan Grider community received a special honor from the Metro Community Development Corporation.

Saturday, a ceremony took place at the Delavan Grider Community Center. State Assemblywoman Crystal People Stokes and Masten District Councilmember Ulysees Wingo were both in attendance.

Those who were honored have been long-standing members of the community who contribute time, effort, and their own money to help build up the community, according to Barbara Carson Jones, president of the Metro Community Development Corporation.

"These business owners deserve recognition for hard work in a poverty stricken community for 65 years or more," Jones said.

Some of those honored Saturday include Hobson Cleaners, Hard Manufacturing, Ben's Auto Tires, Rite Aide, Ace Collision, Elegance of Beauty by Elka, JV's Barber Shoppe and Grace Church in Christ.
