NFTA Police find man who ran away with a baby after crash

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - Police say they found a man who ran away from a car accident with a baby Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at the Route 33/Route 198 junction around 8 a.m. According to a Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority officer, Kaleb Aaron Evans, 22, was driving a car involved in the accident.

An NFTA officer was able to rescue the baby who was taken to Erie County Medical Center and appears to be okay. When the baby was rescued, her temperature was below 70 degrees.

Evans, however, was on the loose all day Wednesday until he was finally apprehended in the NFTA bus station in the afternoon. Officers say he bought a ticket to Atlanta at the NFTA bus station at about 3 p.m.

Officers say Evans was babysitting the child and is a relative of the baby. According to an NFTA officer, Evans took the child from the house this morning for an unknown reason. Police say it is unclear at this time where the parents of the child are.

Police say Evans has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The Buffalo Police Department sex offense squad is also investigating this case.
