Buffalo firefighters are sifting through debris and checking for hotspots after a house fire spread to two other homes on the city's east side, early Friday morning.

Flames began spreading from 267 Hazelwood Avenue to two neighboring homes around 3:30 a.m.

267 Hazelwood is a complete loss according to Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield. Part of the home collapsed and a vehicle in the driveway was burned.

271 Hazelwood has suffered "extensive damage" amounting to nearly $95,000. A husband and wife couple living in the home escaped after hearing loud noising and seeing "orange" through their bedroom window.

"I'm a little numb right now but I just got the favor of God on my side," said Antwain Bradley who lives at 271 Hazelwood. "We're going to be alright."

The other home that suffered the least amount of damage is "salvageable" according to Whitfield.

A mayday call went out Friday morning because some firefighters were unaccounted for but they were found safe.

Two crew members fighting the blaze reported having to escape one of the homes through a second floor window. Another firefighter escaped through the front door.

The fire was quickly moved to two-alarms, which caused the dispatch of nearly 60 firefighters total.

All residents in the homes are safe but were taken to ECMC to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Damage at all three homes are estimated around $270,000 in total.

Firefighters are investigating how the fire started.
