The Buffalo Common Council has approved the “Green Code,” otherwise formally known as the Unified Development Ordinance.

"This is a major milestone for the city of Buffalo," Mayor Byron Brown said.

Council members unanimously voted in favor of overhauling the city’s zoning plans, which will guide future development in the Queen City.

Hundreds of community meetings have been held to ensure inclusive engagement.

“This is one of the most democratic pieces of legislation that this Council will ever produce and just for that reason I am proud to vote on the Green Code,” Niagara District Council Member David A. Rivera said.

Once Mayor Brown signs the Green Code into law, it will be effective 45 days afterward for neighborhood commercial corridor zones and 90 days for all other zones.
