Buffalo Police are investigating a hit-and-run that happened in the Riverside neighborhood around 4:48p.m. on Labor Day.

A 55-year old woman was hit by a silver Nissan Altima as she was crossing Ontario Street near Philadelphia Street.

The victim was taken to ECMC with a severe head injury. Currently, she's in the ICU, listed in critical condition.

Neighbors say the victim is an Asian-American woman who lives nearby and they say speeding on this section of Ontario is an issue.

With help from the community and surveillance video, investigators were able to find the suspect in the matter of hours. Police arrested 29-year-old Theodore Canaski of Wheatfield. He was found near the corner of Broadway and Young just four hours later.

Canaski is facing multiple charges including leaving the scene of an accident.

Buffalo City Court documents 7 Eyewitness News was able to dig up show that the suspect shouldn't have been behind the wheel in the first place. He has a suspended license for failing to pay fines.
