San Diego (WKBW.com) San Diego Quarterback Phillip Rivers threw for three touchdowns, two to Antonio Gates, as the Chargers blew out the Buffalo Bills 37-10 on Sunday. It was the sixth straight loss who have now been officially eliminated from the playoffs.
Offensively it was a brutal day for Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick finished the game 13-34 for 176 yards and two interceptions. The Chargers scored 13 points off of those two turnovers including a 26 yard interception return for a touchdown by Chargers Steve Gregory in the 4th quarter.
The Bills defense surrendered points on the first three San Diego drives.
Tight End Antonio Gates gave the Chargers a 7-nothing first quarter lead with a 9 yard touchdown catch on San Diego's opening drive. Gates finished the day 7 catches for 68 yards and two scores. Philip Rivers finished 24-of-33 for 240 yards and 3 touchdowns. Patrick Crayton hauled in the other Rivers touchdown throw.
Bills LB Bryan Scott scored the only touchdown of the day for Buffalo. Scott recovered a Rivers fumble in the endzone to pull the Bills within in 6 points at 16-10 in the third quarter.
It looked like the Bills were starting to pick up some momentum when the defense made a stop on 3rd and 8 on the following drive. But the Chargers stole it right back when Eric Weddle rushed for 10 yards and a first down on a fake punt on 4th and 2. The Chargers would go on to score a touchdown on the drive to take the lead 23-10. San Diego would go up 30-10 on the interception return by Gregory on the Bills following drive.
The 5-and-8 Bills host the Miami Dolphins on December 18th.
