We tend to look for a quick fix when it comes to losing weight and our overall health.  A lot of people swear by apple cider vinegar, but does it really help - or could it be harmful?

Drinking apple cider vinegar is a relatively new fad but it has ancient roots.  Many people swear that it helps you lose weight, detoxes your body and gives you higher energy levels, but dieticians are warning there's no actual research to back that up.

"Research is always evolving so I could be standing here in a year saying apple cider vinegar is great. But as of right now we don't know that there are any positive health benefits from it, and there are some studies that show negative side effects," explained one dietician.

Experts say some negative side effects could include heart arrhythmia, dangerously low potassium levels, and throat irritation.

When it comes to weight loss and health, dietitians say there is no magic elixir or replacement for a balanced diet and exercise.
