Competitors will indulge in a taste South of the border for bragging rights on Saturday. Allen Street Poutine Company will host its 3rd Annual Poutine Eating Contest this afternoon.

There's no more appropriate time to have such a competition, as it's taking place during Quebec's "La Poutine Week," the birthplace of this renowned meal.

Judges will choose winners based on the total weight of Allen Street's traditional poutine consumed by competitors in a five-minute span.

First place will receive a cash prize, as well as the coveted golden potato trophy. Awards will extend to second and third place as well.

The competition is open to any and all ages with a $20 registration fee and begins at 2 p.m. This event is also open to the public.

According to Allen Street Poutine, last year's winner ate more than three pounds of poutine in five minutes.
