Advocates are applauding Time magazine's choice for "Person of the Year." “I think they got it spot on and I think to not have done this would've been a bit sad,” said Lindy Korn.
Time named the silence breakers its 2017 Person of the Year. They are the women who triggered a "me too" national outcry over sexual harassment.
Korn is an attorney who has represented victims of discrimination in the workplace, including sexual assault cases, for close to 40 years. Korn said her law firm has seen about a 40 percent increase in calls since the "me too" movement surfaced. “It is a statistical piece. It's volume. How can you ignore this huge voice of women all over this country?”
Korn thinks it gives a voice to those previously too scared to come forward. “They now may be believed and feel a little safer complaining,” she said.
Other advocates agree. “A movement like this shows that these things happen and we are here to support and believe them,” said Kate Fowler. Fowler’s the Executive Director of “It Happened to Alexa.” The non-profit provides funding and support for victims who testify at trial.
