At malls across western New York, shoppers took note of a new type of Black Friday.

Shoppers who once enjoyed the crowds and overnight lines, were met with little competition at the malls.

Many shoppers describe the experience as more "leisurely" on Black Friday itself. Local malls had noticeably smaller crowds on the traditional shopping day.

Those same malls opened Thanksgiving evening or later at night. Thanksgiving has even earned the nickname "Grey Thursday" in the retail world.

However, lines were still long at one business which kept its doors closed on Thanksgiving. Cabela's opened at five in the morning on Black Friday. More than 500 people waited in line for the holiday deals.
