CATTARAUGUS COUNTY, NY ( WKBW ) Six hikers were led to safety early Monday morning after being found in Zoar Valley.

The group were led to safety by first responders thanks in part to the GPS ( Global Positioning System ) from a cell phone used by one of the hikers.

The incident began around 10p.m. Sunday night when the group realized they were lost while hiking in Zoar Valley.

After a distress call was made, Park Rangers, Gowanda Fire, and the Erie County Sheriff's Air One search helicopter went into action.

Once the searchers located the missing hikers on foot, they were safely walked out.
