Twenty year old Lauren Olmsted and her 18 year old boyfriend Jason Graham are accused of terrorizing residents in the Town of Tonawanda. Police say the couple is responsible for a rash of burglaries and home invasions dating back to August.
"They were taking jewelery, cash, anything valuable that they could get their hands on and walk out with," said Lt. Nicholas Bado of the Town of Tonawanda Police Department.
This Bonnie and Clyde duo had residents in the Town of Tonawanda in fear, wondering if the robbers would be breaking through their windows while they slept.
"They were sneaking around the back of a house, so they were concealed from most people's view. They were looking for a window that was open, unlocked, just prying the screen off climbing up on an air conditioning unit or anything like that...getting in through the window, doing their thing...in most cases putting the screen back in and leaving as if nothing happened," Bado continued.
In at least one case, the pair was spotted by a witness who was able to provide a detailed description to police leading investigators to put together a flyer with the suspects' mugshots from prior arrests.
On a hunch detectives went to area motels and hit the jackpot at a Super 8 Motel ironically located just down the road from the police department.
When police showed the attendant at the Super 8 the flyer she recognized the suspects immediately. They were inside a room in the motel where they had stashed some of their loot.
Eyewitness News talked to a guest staying at the same motel who says he isn't surprised about the hideout location but he hopes the suspected crooks learn a lesson.
"I'm glad they caught them and put them away they're young they're foolish maybe they'll learn. Live and learn I guess," said Jay Nowak, a guest at the Super 8.
Police are now working on connecting the stolen items with the victims of the crimes.
The pair is being charged with two counts of attempted burglary, two counts of burglary, grand larceny, criminal mischief and petit larceny.
They are due back in court September 13th.
