YWCA of WNY Youth Program Gives Back To The Community

August 10, 2012 Updated Aug 10, 2012 at 11:18 AM EDT

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW/YWCA Press Release) - Over 20 teens from the YWCA of WNY Inc. (YWCA) Youth Program will be giving back as they provide Community Clean-Up at Greater Refuge Temple, 943 Jefferson Avenue (near High), Buffalo, NY 14209 on Friday, August 10, 2012 from 10am-12pm.

Deborah Lynn Williams, CEO of YWCA, said, "An important part of being an adult is being an aware and involved community member. Public service is a part of that equation and YWCA incorporates a public service component into our programs."

The teens, 10th-12th graders, are participants in the YWCA Youth program formerly known as the YWCA Jobs Program. This program provides job and life skills training and paid internships, apprenticeships, and job opportunities for ages 16-18. Youth are recruited to the program through relationships with local schools and alternative education agencies, the Workforce Investment Board Youth Council, churches, and community groups. Youth participate in a range of activities at the YWCA of WNY offices located at the JFK Center at 114 Hickory as well as off-site opportunities such as internships and college visits.
