Artic air ushers in bitterly cold temperatures, frigid wind chills and significant lake effect snow for the beginning of the week.

Below is a breakdown of weather conditions our area will see through Wednesday morning.

A Freezing Rain Advisory has been posted for Niagara, Erie and Chautauqua counties until 1am. Pockets of freezing rain possible within rain showers, creating slick conditions on area roads. Less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Winds increase tonight as the cold front approached, a High Wind Warning is in effect for Niagara, Orleans, Genesee Wyoming, Erie and Chautauqua counties for SW winds 25-35mph with gusts near 60mph from 1am until 10am. Cattaraugus and Allegany counties the High Wing Warning is from 3am through 10am for SW winds 20-30mph and gusts 50-60mph.

A few wet snowflakes possible closer to morning as temperatures fall behind the cold front. Any standing water on streets could turn into black ice.

Even through the wind warning will expire at 10am it will remain windy with gust near 45mph.

Midday Monday: Lake effect gets underway remaining disorganized.

Lake Effect Snow Warning for Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties from 11am Monday through 6am Wednesday. Three feet of snow possible in most persistent bands.

Monday afternoon: Lake effect snow showers begin to organize near Southern Erie and Wyoming counties to just south of Buffalo and Batavia. 3-5" possible.

Temperatures fall into the single digits by evening.

Wind Chill Warning for all of WNY 6pm Monday through 6pm Tuesday. Wind chill values as low as 30 to 40 degrees below zero possible - combined with lake effect snow and wind gusts over 45mph will make for dangerous weather conditions.

Monday Night: Lake effect kicks into high gear with 1-2" per hour snowfall rates through the night. Northern Chautauqua and southern Erie and Wyoming counties within the band to start and drifts north to south Metro Buffalo to northeast Genesee county.

Tuesday: Heavy lake effect snow, blowing snow and bitter wind chills continue.

36" accumulation possible just south of Buffalo within a 24-36 hour period.

Northern Erie and Genesee counties:
Monday: 3-5"
Monday Night: 6-12"
Tuesday: 9-17"
Tuesday Night: 1-3"

Southern Erie and Wyoming counties:
Monday: 3-5"
Monday Night: 8-15"
Tuesday: 9-17"
Tuesday Night: 2-4"

Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties:
Monday: 2-4"
Monday Night: 7-14"
Tuesday: 3-6"
Tuesday Night: 2-4"

Lake snows come to an end on Wednesday.
