BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) A woman who survived a brutal attack in Africa shared her story at a women's conference in Buffalo Saturday.

Mariatu Kamara had her hands cut off in the African country of Sierra Leone.

She wrote a book about her experience and shared it at the conference at Rich's Atrium on Saturday.

Members of a panel discussed various issues surrounding women empowerment.

The money raised goes to programs to prevent genocide in Africa.

Channel 7's Joanna Pasceri, co-anchor of Channel 7's Eyewitness News at 5, 6, & 11 hosted the event.
