A local attorney has made a name for herself with her name on her business. Kathryn Jackson is December's Women In Leadership honoree. Eyewitness News is partnering with the Buffalo-Niagara Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners on these monthly reports. Eyewitness News Anchor Joanna Pasceri has her story.
There's a comforting feeling as you walk into Kathryn Jackson's law office. It goes along well with the work of this estate attorney.
She's been on her own almost ten years now, and it all happened because she acted on a whim as a young mother.
With her young kids in tow, she went to the University at Buffalo Law School, asking for an application. She took the admission test a week later and found out she was accepted.
She spent 20 years learning and training as a lawyer at two local firms before deciding the time was right to go on her own, and she never looked back.
Jackson says, "It worked out wonderfully. Better than I ever expected. I am very happy with it."
She actually puts less time in, but does more work. It's a more efficient operation and having a lap top and cell phone make it possible.
It's been a rewarding move for Kathryn, both financially and personally, and she hopes to keep helping others for many more years to come.
She says, " I am having such a good time. I can't imagine not doing it."
