West Seneca, N.Y. (WKBW) - It was an emotional scene as the family and friends of both the victim and the accused in a fatal car accident headed to a West Seneca Court.

Lori Maciejewski, 29, is accused of the hit and run crash that killed Ryan Purcell, 18, of West Seneca. It happened early Saturday morning. Police said they found Purcell dead, then tracked down and arrest Maciejewski 12 hours later.

Maciejewski claims that she didn't realize she hit anyone. She is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash and failing to keep right.

"No one knew what happened they just found him dead. Then they came to us and said it was hit and run. No on knew who it was and it's just good that they found her," Purcell's friend Rick Larkin said.

Maciejewski waived her right to a felony hearing after pleading not guilty. The case will now head to an Erie County Grand Jury. Friends of Maciejewski said she is a caring and kind person who would not have left the scene if she knew someone was hurt.

As for the Purcell family, they said they want to see improvements in safety on many of the roads in West Seneca.
