BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The woman who flirted with Rep. Chris Lee (R-Clarence) through a series of e-mails after the two met on Craigslist told the Washington Post she never thought the encounter would end in scandal and Lee's career in ruins.

"I didn't do this for the attention or, you know, notoriety or money or whatever," Yesha Callhan, 34, told the Washington Post Thursday night.

The Post said Callahan is a faculty specialist at the University of Maryland and a single mother.

"She's really a private person," said Danielle Benton, editor of the African-American news blog theloop21.com.

Benton interviewed Callahan for an article on Thursday, where the woman remained anonymous.

"She normally minds her own business. It's just one of those situations where she pretty much can't believe this is happening," she said.

"She just kind of thought it was your usual anonymous guy you find on the Internet," Benton said.

But when Callhan discovered the man ,who claimed to be a 39-year-old divorced lobbyist, was actually a 46-year-old married member of Congress, she pondered taking her story to the tabloids.

"I felt annoyance at just the audacity of people thinking that they're not going to get found out when they are lying," Callahan told the Post.

"She was pretty freaked out. She sat on it for quite a bit of time before actually talking," said Benton.

Callahan eventually gave her story to Gawker.com, which broke the news on Wednesday afternoon. Three hours later, Chris Lee resigned from Congress.

"Congressman Lee made his own decision. That he felt was in his best interest and the interest of his family," said House Speaker John Boehner, who accepted Lee's resignation at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, less than three hours after the scandal flooded the Internet.
