Woman Convicted of Murder for Throwing Granddaughter off Mall Skywalk

A 50-year-old Virginia woman on Thursday was convicted of first-degree murder for throwing her 2-year-old granddaughter off a 44-foot high mall skywalk last November, according to the Washington Post.

A jury recommended a prison sentence of 35 years for Carmela dela Rosa, who had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, according to the Post story. The verdict comes at the conclusion of a seven-day trial.
