Buffalo (WKBW) It took until the very last minute, but Mother Nature sent the snow just in time for a big weekend of winter activities in the Queen City.
"You name it, it's happening in Downtown Buffalo this weekend," Mayor Byron Brown said.
The third annual Powderkeg Winterfest took over Niagara Square, with activities like sledding, chainsaw ice carving, and a petting zoo. The newly renovated Statler City played host to indoor activities as well, with exhibits, merchandise, and a kids zone with games and crafts.
"We get knocked a lot for our winters and this is a way to show the rest of the country that we have activities in the wintertime that we really love and we love to celebrate. So that's what this is all about," Winterfest organizer Drew Cerza said.
Down the street at the Erie Basin Marina it was day two of the Labatt Blue street hockey tournament, where the lack of ice didn't stop the fun
"We get to put our jerseys on, hang out, have some beers, have a good time, it's great," competitor Nate Drag said.
And at the Convention Center, the Buffalo Auto Show offered a warm up inside, with the hottest new makes and models on display.
"We've had excellent crowds, there has been excellent response to all the cars and trucks and attractions. We couldn't be happier and are looking forward to a big weekend," Show Director Trey Barrett said.
