Wind Chill Advisory For Western New York

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY (WKBW-TV) - The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a wind chill advisory for all of western New York starting Tuesday afternoon.

The advisory is in effect for Niagara, Erie, Orleans, Genesee, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany and Wyoming counties from 6pm Tuesday to 11am Wednesday.

Temperatures during the period will range between zero and five below zero. Wind chills could be less than 15 degrees below zero.

Prolonged exposure outdoors with wind chill values this low may cause frostbite and or hypothermia.

A code blue is in effect meaning warming shelters are open in the City of Buffalo. The City Mission and St. Luke's Mission of Mercy will be open from 8pm - 8am for anyone who needs a warm place to stay.
