WILLIAMSVILLE, NY (WKBW) - Joei Lucey spend much of the day Wednesday explaining to customers that her organic spa is not the one named in a police investigation that resulted in prostitution charges.
Lucey owns Green Spa Village Hollistics on Main Street in Williamsville.
Erie County Sheriff's officials raided Green Spa on Main Street in Clarence on Tuesday, after a six week investigation, capped off with the arrest of 53-year-old Chinese national Yuxia Shi.
"All of the sudden I got a text saying 'what's going on at Green Spa, what massage therapist was arrested for prostitution?' I said 'nobody here, I don't know what's going on,'" said Lucey.
Though the businesses shared a name, that's where the similarities end.
Lucey's high-end spa employs state certified massage therapists and practices hollistic, organic treatment.
The Clarence spa did not employ certified massage therapists, and advertised 'body rubs' by appointment under 'adult' sections in various local publications.
Still, many customers were confused.
"It's prompted phone calls, we have promotions out, we've had a couple of clients not show up today without phone calls, and that has never happend," said Lucey.
But the damage has been done, and Lucey says she is going to have to change the name of her business.
"Yeah, we absolutely have to. I'm taking out the Green Spa because there are way too many stories about this Green Spa problem," she said.
