BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The nearly mile long roadway is a key link between Downtown and the Southtowns, and roughly handles 45-thousand vehicles per day.
Darrell Kaminski with the New York State Department of Transportation says the elevated roadway is due for some repairs but replacing it is not a immediate need.
"The Skyway is in good shape. There may need to be some deck work to be done in a couple years so at this point we have so many other needs and competing needs it just isn't a priority right now," said Kaminski.
"We could probably keep it going for probably $20 or $30 million for the next 20 years or so."
Some estimate the cost of replacing the Skyway could fall in the $100 million range.
