(Williamsville, NY) For the second year in a row, a professional football player from Western New York is scheduled to play in the Super Bowl.
Rob Gronkowski, a tight end for the New England Patriots, is scheduled to take the field when Super Bowl XLVI (46) kicks off on February 5th, despite battling an injury.
Gronkowski, and his three brothers, attended Williamsville North High School.
"Oh, it is just amazing. It is not surprising knowing that his talent would take him there," says Mike Mammoliti, football coach for Williamsville North High School.
Mammoliti coached Rob Gronkowski when he played for the school's varsity football team.
"He is such a competitor all the time. I think that is what separates him from a lot of other guys."
The Gronkowski Family is well-known in the Williamsville area as the owners of G&G Fitness Equipment.
"It was shaking . . . it was unbelievable knowing that my son is now going to the Superbowl," adds his very proud father, Gordon Gronkowski.
However, the Patriots tight end suffered an ankle injury in the AFC championship game against the Baltimore Ravens.
"Now it is basically keep it up and keep the swelling out of it. Hopefully, by next week it is all down and he is back up and running again," commented his father.
Dan Gronkowski is a tight end for the Cleveland Browns - Chris Gronkowski is a running back for the Indianapolis Colts.
