Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - United State Attorney William Hochul announced Thursday the indictment of 27 individuals by a federal grand jury. The 62 count indictment charges alleged members of the 10th Street Gang and their associates with racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, violent crimes, narcotics trafficking and firearm offenses. The indictment also details acts of murder, attempted murder, robbery, and assault.
"The charges speak for themselves, you had three individuals that were being murdered, multiple narcotics distribution charges, and weapons selling," said FBI Special Agent James Robertson. "This was a very notorious gang who took over the streets."
The indictment follows a year long joint investigation by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force which includes state and local agencies . Federal agents say the 10th Street Gang has been around since the 1980's and has been terrorizing Buffalo's West Side for decades.
"We in law enforcement are taking back 10th Street for the law abiding citizens of this community. This marks the beginning of the end of the cycle of violence, " said United States Attorney William Hochul.
Suspected gang members and associates were either arrested, or already incarcerated following the indictment, expect one man. Agents say 22-year-old Michael Bobbitt remains at large, accused of trafficking narcotics.
