Warm Hands, Warm Hearts Clothing Drive Extended

December 25, 2011 Updated Dec 25, 2011 at 11:37 AM EDT

BUFFALO, NY ( release) – The annual appeal for warm clothing is getting a much-needed extension due to the unusually warm Holiday weather. The drive has been extended by organizers and sponsors to allow for additional clothing drops to take place after Christmas.

Hearts for the Homeless, the charity that is receiving the donations through Friday, December 30th, has placed collection barrels throughout the Greater Buffalo area in participating Nationwide Insurance agent offices and at Amberleigh Retirement Community.

“Warm clothing, especially for men, is needed more urgently at this time,” said Nick Calandra, Chief Operations Officer for the Buffalo headquartered charity. He explained that all gently used clothing is very much appreciated but that packages of new socks, underwear, and other warm clothing are especially welcomed.

The barrels are conveniently distributed all over Western New York, courtesy of Warm Hands, Warm Hearts’ presenting sponsor, Nationwide Insurance. They have eleven agents from as far south as Hamburg, east to Clarence, and north to Niagara Falls that will be accepting the donations at their offices.

Nationwide spokesperson Grant Getzoni explains: “Our agents are very active in their local neighborhoods and recognize the urgent need to take care of the less fortunate, especially during the Holiday period.” “We partner with Entercom Communications and Hearts for the Homeless to get the word out that we would like to fill these barrels and then some, so a large amount of clothing can go to those that need it most”.

In addition to Nationwide Insurance, Amberleigh Retirement Community, 2330 Maple near Transit in Williamsville, is a supporting sponsor and a location for drop-offs for Warm Hands, Warm Hearts.
