New York Congresswomen Kathy Hochul and Louise Slaughter on Thursday issued statements in response to House Leadership reaching an agreement on the extension of the Payroll Tax Cut.
Hochul's statement reads:
“On behalf of middle-class families in the 26th District, I’m relieved to hear that House Leadership tonight finally agreed to accept the bipartisan agreement to extend the Payroll Tax Cut for 160 million Americans.
“This should have never come to the 11th hour. After weeks of playing politics, House Leadership has finally recognized the importance of this critical tax relief and joined the majority of Congress in supporting the Payroll Tax Cut.
“Americans are tired of Washington’s partisan bickering, and tonight’s agreement, while long overdue, will provide critical tax relief to Western New York’s families.”
Slaughter's statement reads:
“We should have given Americans a tax cut on Monday, when we were all in town and prepared to send this bill to the President. Instead we got dangerous theatrics. It’s a shameful way of doing business. But I am pleased to see that we are moving ahead with this tax cut for middle class families, reimbursement for doctors, and vital unemployment insurance to Americans during this holiday season.”
