The Food Bank of Western New York's Backpack Program was established because students who were on free or reduced lunch programs during the week didn't have enough food to eat when they went home on the weekends.

Since the backpack program started in October, 2010 it has been a game changer not only for the students but for the whole family.

The food bank sends home enough food to feed the whole family for the weekend. The backpack program is now in 15 schools throughout Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Niagara and Erie counties servicing 900 students.

One backpack full of food is only $3.47.

The food bank is relying on donations in order to keep this program going.
