DEPEW, NY (WKBW) -- Singles are getting ready for the Buffalo Spree Bachelor Auction which benefits the Western New York affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the cure's fight against breast cancer.

Guests get to bid on date packages and top Western New York bachelors ranging in age from the mid-20s to early-60s with varied occupations and interests. "I was not looking for love, I was actually pretty sour on the whole thing," Gary Earl Ross, a bachelor in the 2009 Buffalo Spree Auction, said.

But it was that night he met his love, Dr. Tamara Alsace. "I was very nervous actually, so I took my jacket off and threw it over my shoulder very casually and the bidding started and ended...then I was led off stage and taken to meet the winning bidder and it turned out to be Tammy," Ross said.

He also says they've been together ever since and the couple uses the auction date as their anniversary date. "What came out of that night was just so positive...life sometimes has happy surprises, and this was indeed," Ross said.

The Buffalo Spree Bachelor Auction will be held at Salvatore's Italian Gardens on Transit Road in Depew, Thursday evening. The night starts at 5:30pm with a cocktail party. There will be food stations and a silent auction. The live bachelor auction begins at 8pm. Channel 7's Jennifer Stanonis will serve as the emcee this year.
