The ruling issued today by Judge Matt Murphy opens the door for the Verizon data center project in Somerset to move forward. I will be meeting with Verizon officials early next week to discuss our next steps. I have repeatedly told them in our ongoing discussions that Niagara is a great place for them to do business.
We beat back state legislation that threatened this development, we are getting them low-cost hydropower, and now, with the obstacle of the court case out of the way, I am hopefully that our region may soon be in line to benefit from the massive investment and good, new jobs that this project entails.
Frivolous lawsuits have too often hampered economic development efforts in New York. Here the courts have done the right thing by dismissing this case and allowing the Verizon data center to progress.
On the heels of yesterday’s agreement between the Niagara County IDA and AES on the latter’s property tax payments, this is another indication of good news for this site and for the people of the Niagara Region.
