WEST SENECA, NY (WKBW) Volunteers discovered vandalism throughout the Burchfield Nature and Art Center on Union Road in West Seneca Tuesday morning.
Rails and wooded pathways in several areas of the park were destroyed, along with the Ebenezer Cemetery fence. Concrete benches in the meditation garden had been flipped over. Volunteers also found two benches, recently built by an Eagle Scout and concreted to the ground, had been torn apart. Wood from the benches had been piled as though it was intended to be lit on fire.
“We (volunteers at BNAC) are angry and frustrated,” said Burchfield volunteer Paula Minklei. “So much time, good will and energy goes into keeping the park looking welcoming and beautiful.”
“It was a path of destruction that took great strength and a long period of time,” added fellow volunteer, Carol Yetter.
Volunteers at the center are now asking the Town of West Seneca to install security cameras throughout the park.
West Seneca Police are investigating the vandalism. Anyone with information can contact the Police Department at 674-2280.
