Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) - Facebook is a great tool to find old friends, make new ones, and.... Fight crime!
The North Buffalo Block Club has been using the social networking site to do just that.
The group's Facebook page keeps residents updated, not only on community events, but also criminal activity.
Where it happened, when, and the descriptions of those who might be responsible.
Police like what they see.
"They have great communication trees, as we call them, so everyone knows what's going on in their area," Says D-District Police Chief Anthony Barba.
The North Buffalo Block Club is getting stronger and more organized as more and more residents grow concerned over a small uptick in property crimes.
Their efforts-- are helping Police.
"Sometimes they can tell you about things before they happen because they know or see something suspicious in their neighborhoods," says Barba.
Police have already made several recent arrests, charging suspects in a few North Buffalo break-ins-- thanks to the input from residents-- and possibly, thanks to Facebook.
"it's a great crime fighting tool," Barba said.
