BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - The Buffalo VA is now one of five VA medical centers across the country that congress is putting under the microscope.

A House committee is holding hearings next month to look into "serious patient safety issues."

The Buffalo VA exposed more than 700 patients to hepatitis by reusing insulin pens. In that time span, it's regional director, David West, received almost $26,000 in bonuses.

"That's management," said Congressman Brian Higgins. "Folks are getting bonuses within the context of everything that's going on, and all the issues that are yet to be resolved, unwise, and that's an understatement."

Higgins says he hopes the house committee hearings will be able to pinpoint who was responsible for the alleged mismanagement at the Buffalo VA.
