Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) - Already you can see a big sign of progress in downtown Buffalo.
A huge Marquis is being installed outside the Buffalo-Niagara Convention Center on Franklin Street.
" It's going to completely transform the first thing people see as they approach the building," says Convention Center Director Paul Murphy.
It's one of many upgrades.
The convention center, which many have long complained is outdated, is receiving a much needed renovation from top to bottom, inside and out.
"The event rooms are getting new floors and wall décor. There's going to be sound and acoustical treatments .The walls are also going to have an L.E.D. light feature-- so you can have a light show for events," says Murphy.
A new, expanded kitchen comes equipped with a tasting room.
"Hopefully, that's where customers will share a meal with our people and sign a contract to bring their event to Buffalo." Murphy says.
That's the idea.
A major facelift to bring "more" and bigger events to Buffalo. More people shopping, eating, and staying downtown.
"This will help us compete with cities all over the country," says Murphy.
