ORCHARD PARK, NY (WKBW) -In an effort to educate kids on sun exposure and Ultraviolet Rays, the New York State Department of Health is distributing free UV bracelets to summer camps around the state. As the hours pass by, the white bracelet will progressively turn dark blue to alert campers it's time to re-apply sunscreen or seek shade. The new initiative has been a big hit with summer campers in the Orchard Park Recreation Department.

"We can monitor the type of sun and the intensity the kids are receiving with the way this bracelet works," said Orchard Park Recreation Director Ed Leak. "It changes colors, so if need to we can take the kids in the shade or indoors and monitor the sun safety.

The wristbands last for about a week.
