BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - A report in today's Business First shows how puzzle pieces are snapping into place on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. In January, the University at Buffalo is expected to unveil the final rendering of ITS $375 million medical school plan.

The report includes details of the project. The building will be 520,000 square feet and will welcome its first class in fall 2016. It will occupy nearly an entire block between Main and Washington streets and will incorporate the Metro Rail station.

People will be able to use elevated walkways to get all the way to Buffalo General without going outside. UB is getting input from community groups about the design.

Besides a new facility, the project is luring new faculty. Officials say they are "bringing in fresh blood from academic institutions all over the world."

The project is expected to create 1,665 construction jobs. Full-time faculty at the med school is expected to increase from 715 to 850. UB will create about 1,125 positions on the medical campus. Officials say most of that hiring is still to come.
