HAMBURG, NY (WKBW) - This happened on Route 20 in Hamburg, about a half mile north of North Creek Road. Two cars involved in a head on collision.

The cars in this one, so mangled, rescuers had to use the jaws of life, to cut through twisted metal to get the passengers out.

Take a look at the vehicles, both of which are barely recognizable. Police say the white car on the left of the screen was hit head on by the the darker colored truck on the right.

This all happened just around 9 P.M. last night as the truck, heading westbound was passing a vehicle when it slammed right into the smaller white car.

Three people were in that car, all badly injured, two of them were flown to ECMC, the other passenger was taken by ambulance.

No word on the condition of the driver of the truck.

This crash was so bad, rescue teams had a very tough time getting to the victims.

A portion of Route 20 was shutdown for several hours but has since re-opened.

Investigators remained on scene into the overnight hours.

Authorities have not released the names at this time of the victims or their conditions at this hour.

Crews on scene say accidents like this one are not uncommon for this stretch of roadway.
