Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - Addiction is a major problem in Western New York, and the growing drug of choice for many is right in your medicine cabinet -- painkillers.

It's a battle Adam Klyczak knows all too well. "Physically, mentally, emotionally -- I just started to rot away."

Just last year, the former Army Combat Medic entered Horizon Village as a recovering addict.

Klyczak battled alcohol and drugs, including prescription painkillers. "I would isolate myself from everyone and everything," Klyczak remembers. "I would just lock myself in my apartment. And I would not hope to die -- I didn't care if I would die"

Horizon Health Services is trying to fight the addiction epidemic in Western New York.

Channel 7's Rachel Elzufon takes an in-depth look at the fight against painkiller addictions.
