WATERLOO, NY (WHAM) - A tractor trailer crashed into a tour bus about 1:47 a.m. Friday on the NY State Thruway near Waterloo. The driver of the tractor trailer has died.

New York State Police say at 20 people were taken to hospitals; Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester is treating six of them. Others with injuries were taken to Upstate Medical in Syracuse.

Thirty people in all were injured, two of whom are in critical condition. Thirteen suffered moderate injuries, and 15 had minor injuries. The tractor trailer driver who died was a 59-years old man from Michigan.

State Police say a Ft. Drum solider was near the scene of the accident, and they credit him with pulling people out of the wreck while it was burning.

The Thruway is shut down between exits 41 (Waterloo) and 42 (Geneva). The westbound lane is open; eastbound traffic will be forced to exit at exit 42.
